Tasting

The wine journalist and critic RAINER SCHÄFER (FINE Das Weinmagazin, Falstaff) tastes seven vintages of REIMITZ Sangiovese from 2011 to 2017 as well as two vintages of REIMITZ Sangiovese Bianco from 2016 and 2017

SANGIOVESE ROSSO TOSCANO IGT

Reimitz IGT Sangiovese 2011

Klaus Johann Reimitz's debut wine caused euphoria when it was released. Only 1500 liters of this exceptional Sangiovese were produced. Fulminant, spicy and complex bouquet with forest fruits, blackberries, cherries, violets, tobacco, licorice, juniper and some undergrowth. Majestic on the palate, showing concentration, density, tension and elegance in fine form, fine-grained tannin and mineral bite. Subtly matured, has style and class and still has potential for many years to come. Sangiovese at its most sensual and refined.

Reimitz IGT Sangiovese 2012

Even if it doesn't quite reach the format of the previous vintage, it shows the clear signature of Klaus Johann Reimitz, who brings more character and expression to this grape variety than other winemakers. 2012 was a cooler year than 2011, which is reflected in the wine. The scent is black cherry, raspberry and blackberry, some pepper, celery herb and wet leaves. It is slimmer on the palate, the acidity is present in a clearly defined medium body, good balance and tension, compact spicy tannins, light citrus notes in the finish. Quite elegant and with potential.

Reimitz IGT Sangiovese 2013

The scent is reminiscent of the 2011 vintage in its strong, spicy and nuanced nature: ripe wild blackberry, black cherry, dried plum, cedar wood, licorice, tobacco, licorice and roasted aromas, also some sage. Opulent and rich in the mouth, tightly woven into a firm structure, showing juice and power with a ripe and supporting acid structure; generous tannins and spicy complexity. Combines substance and finesse.

Reimitz IGT Sangiovese 2014

The attractive bouquet contains mulberries, black cherries, forest fruits, ripe blood oranges, dark chocolate, tobacco and Asian spices. On the palate it is all in one piece, strong in stature with well-proportioned muscles, a cultivated, juicy acidity and rich tannins, shows tension and tension, fine citrus top note, the power is harmoniously integrated. Appears youthful and still has a long and good development ahead of him.

Reimitz IGT Sangiovese 2015

(Barrel sample) Plenty of black cherry and elderberry on the nose, spicy expression. Combines strength, materiality and tension, very clear in expression, young and talented.

Reimitz IGT Sangiovese 2016

(Barrel sample)Pure black cherry in the bouquet, blood orange, garden herbs and some celery. Shows substance, pull and charm, still very youthful, but already distinctive.

Reimitz IGT Sangiovese 2017

(Barrel sample)Beguiling bouquet with red and black cherries, currants, blood orange, tobacco leaves and violets. Sweetish extract on the palate, full-bodied and spicy, good balance in structure, high-quality tannins, cultivated acidity, slightly peppery. Despite his youth, he appears to be well developed and shows charm. Big potential.

REIMITZ SANGIOVESE BIANCO

Reimitz Sangiovese Bianco 2016

White-pressed Sangiovese is a rarity in Tuscany; it is Klaus Johann Reimitz's latest project. The wine was aged in a 600 liter barrel for fourteen months. Smells of citrus fruits and orange zest, also a bit of currant. On the palate it initially shows a solid substance, but also freshness, pressure and melting. Slightly salty and spicy base.

Reimitz Sangiovese Bianco 2017 (barrel sample) Bread dough on the nose, abrasion of citrus fruits. Well built on the palate, shows structure, creaminess and tension, light tannin input, good prognosis.
